Agriculture: Marketing more than 45 million eggs and hundreds of tons of chicken and fish in Baghdad

Today, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the marketing of more than 45 million eggs, in addition to hundreds of tons of chicken, fish and red meat, in Baghdad in January.

The ministry said in a statement, that “more than 45 million table eggs were marketed through 13 operating projects in the Baghdad governorate that were created through the agricultural initiative and operate by cages system.”

She added, “The number of laying hens in the production stage of these projects amounted to more than one million and 800 thousand chickens and 267 thousand chickens in the breeding stage, while the quantities produced of meat chicken reached 368 thousand chickens by 15 projects for the production of broiler chickens and 58 thousand chickens slaughtered by two massacres in Governorate”.

She continued, “The quantities that were marketed from fish on the Rusafa side to the local market reached more than 101 tons through 104 licensed projects operating in the governorate, while the quantities marketed of red meat reached more than 1,000 tons during the month of January last.”

On July 21, 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture suggested that Iraq would be self-sufficient in table eggs during the month of November of this year, noting that the surplus will be exported if there is a possibility for that.
