The American embassy security launches tear gas to disperse the crowd militia

For the second consecutive day, crowds of pro-Iranian militias continued to gather around the US embassy in Baghdad, prompting the US embassy security forces to launch tear gas canisters to disperse hundreds of them.

After attacking the embassy on Tuesday, hundreds of militia supporters announced an open sit-in in the vicinity of the embassy, and they erected some 50 tents with sanitary supplies for camping, according to the French News Agency.

Militia elements who sit in the vicinity of the embassy again tried to approach the American embassy, burning American flags, prompting the American forces to launch tear gas canisters from inside the campus of the huge embassy compound.

Police reinforcements arrived to support the Iraqi forces, which formed a security cordon around the place.

Those present used slogans in support of Iran and its militias in Iraq, prompting Iraqi activists who reject these moves to consider that these are the “sons of the Iranian community in Iraq.”
